If you have an Apple TV that seems to play audio when you’re clicking around the apps, but not actually playing audio for films, there’s a good chance that AirPlay has gone a bit haywire and is hijacking your audio stream and sending it off to some unknown place.
The fix is quite simple:
- Navigate to the Settings app
- Open the AirPlay section
- Turn AirPlay Off and On again.
- Then, make sure under the speakers setting there’s a checkmark beside Apple TV. (Caveat here is if you actually have speakers set up, you’d leave the checkmark next to your device.)
For some unknown reason my Apple TV keeps trying to send audio to my AirPort Express that’s only set up as a Wi-Fi extender on the second floor. This fixes it.
