If you use OS X heavily, you’re probably dealing with a bunch of different windows. Over the years, Apple has done a few things to help manage this issue, but they haven’t really solved the problem for good. In Exposé, you could use gestures, hot corners, or key commands to trigger the open windows to fly around the screen. With Spaces, you could keep different sets of application windows open on different virtual desktops. In Lion, Apple merged those together to make Mission Control. That’s great, but we need more.
Divvy — $13.99
This is a great app for those of you who want to slice up your work space into different sized chunks. If you want two Acorn windows on the left, a Safari window in the upper right, and a Previews window in the lower right, you just open Divvy and select the proper window size in the pop-up HUD. It’s customizable, easy, and a great way to keep your windows manageable.
HyperDock — $9.99
HyperDock is a personal favorite of mine. Not only does it allow you to preview open windows by hovering over their icon in the dock, but it also allows click-and-drag window management. Pull a window to the bottom right corner for it to take up one fourth of the screen. Pull it to the mid-way point of the left edge, and it’ll take up half of the screen. Pull to the top, and the app takes up all of the whole screen. It’s affordable, and I use it every single day.
