The iPad mini is rumored to launch later this month and now new reports are indicating that a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display will be launching alongside it. More recent reports point towards October 23 as the product announcement event.
According to 9to5Mac, a “consistently reliable source at a high-profile U.S. retailer” has learned of a new and smaller version of the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro. The smaller Retina MacBook Pro will reportedly have a thinner, lighter style and will be sold in two configurations that have different processor and storage options.
Like the 15-inch model released in June, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display will be sold at a higher price in addition to the current non-Retina display MacBook Pro model. When the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display launched, it had slim, high-resolution displays, SSD-only storage, and no optical drives.
Apple was said not to have released a 13-inch model alongside the 15-inch model in June so they could give suppliers a bit of a break. Whether six months was enough time remains to be seen, and in about a week we’ll know if a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro will be launched alongside the rumored iPad mini.
