Over the New Year’s holiday, Snapchat was hacked and information for 4.6 million accounts leaked. This information includes usernames and partial phone numbers and is publicly available online for viewing. Some sources say that the Syrian Electronic Army (or SEA), the group that hacked the photo messaging service, even has location data for some users.
If you’re a Snapchat user, chances are you’re worrying that your account has been leaked. Luckily for us, Vik Paruchuri, a developer from Washington DC, has created a web app that will check the leaked list of users for you. Snapcheck, the web app, is free to use and allows you to input your phone number or Snapchat username to check for a match in the list of leaked accounts. It’s definitely worth checking your username and the usernames of close friends for your privacy’s sake.
