In August it was reported that Verizon would be having an all-staff vacation blackout from September 21 to September 30, indicating that this would be the shipping date for the new iPhone 5. Now more evidence is surfacing that this is, in fact, the right date. According to MacRumors, FedEx is preparing for a “surge volume” event during September 21-24.
This information was discovered in a notice of a class being postponed for FedEx employee training. The notice by FedEx said:
Due to the upcoming ‘surge volume’ event between Sep 21-24, this class has been postponed to the week of Nov 5-9 and you have automatically been moved to that class. If you are unable to attend the week of Nov 5-9, please send me an email and we’ll remove you from the roster. Thank you for your understanding.
Obviously FedEx doesn’t want any employee travelling or training around this period. Even though the “surge volume” clearly doesn’t say anything about Apple or the iPhone 5, the dates that FedEx mentions correspond with Verizon’s vacation blackout, both supporting rumors that the iPhone will begin shipping on September 21.
