A new job post on Microsoft Careers hints that Microsoft could be gearing up to bring the latest Xbox Live experiences to all mobile platforms, including iOS.
The job description reads:
Xbox LIVE Mobile team is looking for a passionate and experienced developer to join us brining Xbox LIVE entertainment experiences to various mobile platforms. As the team inside IEB (Interactive Entertainment Business) dedicated to mobile experiences, we work closely with console software team and Xbox LIVE services team to bring the latest and greatest gaming and entertainment experience to mobile platforms including Windows Phone, iOS and other mobile platforms.
Like all job descriptions it’s pretty vague. We can’t take away from the post that Microsoft may be bringing actual Xbox Live games to iOS or possibly even Android any time soon, but what we can do is get excited that Microsoft, and more particularly the Xbox Live team, sees the importance of getting its experience in front of as many customers as possible. Windows Phone just doesn’t have a big enough slice of the pie to have an Xbox Live exclusive, and that’s not going to be changing any time soon. Hopefully this posting means that Microsoft is working on actually bringing titles to iOS, and not just working on the Xbox Live application. The job description kind of sounds like that may be reality.
Microsoft has been testing the waters with the iOS App Store, releasing apps like One Note. With rumors that Office may be coming to iOS, it’s looking increasingly obvious that Microsoft is starting to get real about the state of mobile computing.
