The one website that helped me in my transition to OS X several years ago was Versiontracker. Knowing no one with an Apple product, and not really knowing where to find resources online for my switch, I resorted to versiontracker.com to find Windows equivalent Mac applications. It didn’t turn up the best results all the time, but it certainly helped in my transition stage.
Versiontracker is no longer with us, and now the website forwards to CNET’s Download.com. It’s a sad day, but it’s probably something most saw coming. With the increase in niche website like ours, it’s becoming increasingly easy to find reviews for applications, and suggestions around the web. Social services like Wakoopa and iUseThis also make the transition substantially easier these days.
