Today, Verizon has announced their shared data plans, which will be available on June 28th. These plans have been anticipated since Lowell McAdam, Verizon’s CEO, spoke about upcoming shared data plans in December 2011.
Verizon’s shared data plans will start at $50 for 1GB and $60 for 2GB. After that, each additional 2GB is $15 per month. If you go over your data allowance, you will be charged at a rate of $15 per gigabyte. Once you’ve selected a plan, you can then add a tablet to the data “bucket” for $10 per month and a USB data stick for $20.
In order to enroll in this new data plan, Verizon users will have to subscribe to Verizon’s new “Share Everything” plan, which includes unlimited calling and texting. If used with one smartphone, the plan, paired with a 1GB shared data plan, will cost $90 per month. Adding an additional smartphone to the plan will set you back another $40 per month. Verizon has also stated that they will stop charging for mobile hotspot under the “Share Everything” plan.
Finally, Verizon has also said that they will be killing off all limited calling plans, except for one. The remaining plan is aimed towards “dumb phones,” which will cost $40 per month.
