Study: Almost 50 Percent Of You Don’t Really Care To Have 4G Access

4G LTE technology is supposed to be the next big thing. It’s supposed to dramatically change our mobile consumption tendencies, and it’s supposed to be in the next generation iPhone, according to rumors. But, by the sounds of it, almost half of you really don’t care about 4G, and don’t think you need it in your mobile devices according to a poll conducted by Piper Jaffray.

Out of 3,000 participants that were surveyed, 46.8 percent of respondents voted that they didn’t need the new technology, and only 15.1 percent responded that they preferred 4G LTE.

When you stop and think about it, that’s a pretty damning statistic for the telecommunication companies. Sure, faster wireless data speed is a priority for most, but I have to wonder how much of the result is largely based on consumer expectations about pricing.

Everyone on the planet wants their information faster, but given the cost of current data plans, and the speed that the data caps will evaporate for even the most apprehensive and data conscious consumers, it’s hard for the average consumer to see this as anything other than a cash grab for the cellular providers looking to cash-in on overage fees. With 4G speeds, and low bandwidth caps, there’s going to be a lot of overages.

What about you? How do you feel?
