Songza, one of the most popular free music streaming services, has unveiled its new premium version entitled “Songza Club.’ The service will cost users $0.99 a week, and in return, will grant users the same Songza they know and love only this time, without ads and twice as many song skips.
Songza has sent out an e-mail to its 500,000 most frequent users, inviting them to sign-up for the service. Anyone, however, is still allowed to sign-up, just simply head over to this page here. For $0.99 a week, users will see no ads while using the service, and the number of skips they can use will increase from six to 12. Songza also promises more “premium content,” which will likely take place in the form of exclusive curated playlists.
Songza’s CEO Elias Roman says that the company has released this new version not as a new way to generate revenue, but because of fan request. He says that a number of fans have long been asking for an ad-free version, so the company decided to deliver, along with a couple other useful features.
I’ve personally been a regular Songza user for over a year now and find this offer really compelling. While competitors like Apple’s own iTunes Radio are in the works, the service will have to really impress me to pull me away from Songza.
