This weekend in New York City, a huge Sotheby’s Product (RED) auction took place to raise money for AIDS research and awareness. You might remember that we reported that Jony Ive, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Design, designed quite a few of the products that were sold in the auction, like a Product (RED) edition Mac Pro, a custom Lecia rangefinder camera, and a set of gold EarPods. Last night, these products were sold for some downright insane prices.
The Mac Pro, expected to sell for $40,000-60,000, sold for a whopping $977,000 while the Gold EarPods brought in a pretty $461,000. The aluminum Lecia rangefinder, on the other hand, brought in a crazy $1,805,000 to charity. Jony Ive and Marc Newson also designed an aluminum desk that sold for $1,685,000.
Overall, Sotheby’s brought in $12,883,000 for RED. You can view the entire list of sold products on Sotheby’s website.
