Philip Schiller took the stage today to fill us in on several things, the first being announcements in the iPod space. With announcements pertaining to both the iPod nano and iPod touch.
The iPod nano is getting a UI overhaul, with larger icons that can be run in both 4up (4 icons on the screen at one time) or 1up, which requires you to scroll through the different icons one at a time. The OS is also being fitted with some new watch and clock faces that stem from the popularity of wearing an iPod nano like a watch.
The iPod nano has become quite a staple in the fitness industry, and now this is made even easier. The new models, which are available today, allow you to interface and transmit your fitness data to apps like Nike+ out of the box. Previously, an additional sensor was needed to track and record this data.
You can pick up the new iPod nano later today in 8GB and 16GB flavors, in 7 different colors, for $129 and $149, respectively.
Next up in the iPod world is the iPod touch, which will finally be available in white on October 12th coinciding with the release of iOS 5. Along with this news came the revelation that iMessages will be rolled out, effectively turning your iPod touch into a texting machine. You will be able to shoot images and videos and share them with your friends anywhere you can catch a Wi-Fi signal.
The iPod touch will also be iCloud enabled. Streaming your entire library of music and books without filling up your device is now a reality so long as you are within range of an Internet connection.
The white iPod touch, as stated above, drops October 12th and will set you back $299 for the 32GB model or $399 for the 64GB version.
