In the race for tablet popularity, the iPad has been the front-runner in American households for awhile. However, a study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project says Apple shouldn’t count their chickens just yet. Android tablets are coming up fast with 48 percent of the market share this year, largely dominated by the Kindle Fire and the Samsung Galaxy.
With 25 percent of American adults now owning a tablet, it’s pretty clear that more budget-friendly options are moving off store shelves faster. Interesting how Apple rumours about a more affordable iPad mini have recently started to float around… hmm?
Plus, these survey results were finalized prior to the release of Google’s Nexus 7 or Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HD, which means the pie may even be more sizeably cut in Android’s favor. Pretty crazy since just last year, the iPad held 81 percent of the market share.
