Growl has been updated and is now available on the Mac App Store. It’s no longer free, and it currently costs $1.99, which is sure to turn a couple of heads once word gets out. It’s not exactly going to break the bank at $1.99, so the price doesn’t really bother me, but I have had a very love / hate relationship with the application in the past.
Early on I loved it. But lately it keeps telling me that there’s an update available, despite the software being fully patched. The notifications can be very useful if managed properly. For instance, Growl can let you know when a video project is done rendering, or a file upload has completed. On the other hand, they can be pretty annoying, reminding you every single time a track changes in iTunes. The application is customizable, so if you’re looking to add or remove an app, it’s as easy as turning off Growl notifications in the preferences for a particular application.
There appears to be a new notification center built into the application as well, which is something that hasn’t been available previously with Growl.
We won’t be reviewing this since it’s Growl, and everyone on the planet who’s interested in these kinds of things already knows what Growl is and does at this point.
I’m just a little bit pumped because my goal of moving all of my apps to the Mac App Store is almost complete now, minus all those Adobe applications that I rely on on a daily basis.
