So, you backed the Pebble Kickstarter or pre-ordered one from GetPebble.com. You’re excited to see what the UI looks like undoubtedly. Well, here is the first in-depth video showing off some of the user interface of the pebble while it is in development.
Martijn, the user interface designer at Pebble, takes a moment out of his busy day to show off what he’s been working on. He is using an iPhone as a test bed for his design work, and has, for all intents and purposes, a functional virtual Pebble running. At the very same time, he has a prototype circuit board with a display on it that can dynamically show what a graphic would look like on a finished Pebble device.
Most interesting to me is the design philosophy that Martijn says that he followed while working on the UI: A Grandma should be able to pick it up and use it with no issues, but advanced users should be able to tweak and customize their experience. While this is absolutely a great device for dorks, this really has the potential for mainstream appeal. I don’t mean the 60-some thousand they sold on Kickstarter — I mean Target and Walmart. I really like the idea of having a smart watch, and a few generations down the road, this could turn into something really special. We’re living in the future here!
So, what do you think of what you’ve seen so far? Are you liking it, or are you hoping for a complete reworking of the look and feel before release? Sound off by leaving a message in the comment section below this post. All you need is an email address, Twitter account, or Facebook account.
