If you’ve been keeping yourself up to date with the “state of sync” series over at Cultured Code’s Things blog, you can now check out their third installment; they’ve updated their blog.
Long story short, they’re announcing exactly what their syncing service will entail. Things Cloud Sync will exist in the cloud, obviously, and it will be a software upgrade, and free of charge for now. The service may cost you in the future though, so don’t hold your breath.
All changes on one device will immediately sync to the cloud, thereby updating every other installation of Things you have configured:
Things will sync frequently. While there will be a way to initiate sync manually there should hardly be any reason for doing so. Every change you make is transmitted to the cloud almost instantly. No matter when you quit the app, your data is safe with the server already. Whenever you open Things, switch applications, or wake your computer from sleep, Things will check back with the server to see if there are any updates to pull.
The team will be conducting a very select closed beta based on invite. Invitation emails will begin shipping May 2nd, 2011. If you’re interested in testing the new cloud service, you can sign up here.
What do you think? Too little, too late? Have you moved on to another ToDo application? Let us know in the comments.
