Big Steve Shuns a Member in the iPhone Family

I’m beginning to wonder if I should be afraid every time Steve Jobs steps on to the stage for an Apple Press Conference as he did earlier last week. For those with original iteration of the iPhone, unfortunately, you are being left out to dry after Jobs’ announcement of the OS4 system update to the iPhone (and iPod touch) family.

While it was noted at the keynote speech, that not all versions of the the iPhone and iPod touch will be getting OS 4, the bigger kick in the mouth came from an e-mail that Steve responded to. Fellow Mac lovers over at MacStories received a response from the big man on campus in regards to their question as to whether the 2G iPhone will continue to have support. In his usual manner, Steve replied:

“Sorry, no.

Sent from my iPhone”

I don’t know what’s worse: The fact that the 2G iPhone is being voted off the proverbial island by Apple, or that Steve rubbed it in by sending the response from his iPhone.

Things aren’t looking good for those with the 2G phone. I can’t help but wonder if it was just something had to be done to look to the future, or if it was a ploy to get more customers to upgrade to the 3G and 3GS versions of the phone. Regardless, I still see a problem in just abandoning a great phone.

For those with a 2nd generation iPod touch (post-2008), you’ll get a majority of the features with OS 4, and will continue to see support. For a more in-depth look at the upcoming software update, you can venture on over to Apple’s official page: Apple OS 4
