Each year, retail stores in Japan hold an event called Fukubukuro — a tradition in which retailers sell bags of unknown items to customers for a substainal discount.
Apple has participated for numerous years, and this year is no different. Customers have been lined up overnight, hoping for a bag that contains a MacBook — a surprise Apple has had for a few customers in the past. Most customers have reported items like Nike+ sensors, iPod cases, iPod speaker docks and cables.
For such a large corporation as Apple, it is always fun to see it branching out, reaching local customers in unique ways. Happy New Year, Fukubukuro shoppers!
