We work in a shady industry. While we like to think that everyone’s ethics are above board, we know full well that some people in our industry get paid for some borderline things. But, being paid to tweet covertly and taking 1 million dollars in kickbacks and bribes for leaking information to media outlets are two very different things. People have been seeking money for information for a long time now, and it’s not going to stop any time soon. I’ll tell you this much — we’ll never pay anyone for a stolen device or information.
Paul Shin Devine, a former Apple iPod Operations Manager, is currently being held for accepting 1 million dollars in kickbacks for leaking information. Apple’s not happy, and is choosing to sue Devine. He’s also being indicted by a federal grand jury, and he stands accused of wire fraud, money laundering, and taking kickbacks.
This may be just a sign of the times at Apple Inc. Given the iPhone 4 leaks, we’re willing to a bet a giant mole hunt is underway at Apple. We have no proof, but it’d make complete sense that they need to patch up any additional leaks before they’re met with a similar scenario. Steve Dowling, a spokesman for Apple, has said: “Apple is committed to the highest ethical standards in the way we do business. We have zero tolerance for dishonest behavior inside or outside the company.“
