Chinese supply chain sources have tipped off a number of tech sites that Apple may be getting ready to release its next generation iMacs. The iMacs, according to the tipsters, would include the new Ivy Bridge CPUs and be available with Core i5, and i7 options.
HowToArena, the source of the rumor, states:
While Core i5-3470, Core i5-3470S, Core i5-3475S, Core i5-3570 and Core i5-3570S will be released in early June. No reports about a possible change in form factor of iMac have surfaced as yet … Apple has been working with Intel in partnership from a long time and it is highly likely that Apple would be the first company to get their hands-on Ivy Bridge Core i5/i7 processors for MacBooks and iMacs.
Faheem Saeed, the author of the site, claims that the source has been reliable in the past, but given the fact that this is the first time we’re hearing of HowToArena, we can’t really vouch for their success in the rumor game. That said, Apple’s entire lineup has been rumored to be getting the Ivy Bridge CPUs in its computers for quite some time now. It’s only a matter of time before it happens.
The upgrade is probably going to be a lot sooner rather than later though, considering I purchased the current generation MacBook Air two weeks ago. If the past is anything to go by, that usually means Apple’s going to release updates any day now. Feel free to thank me by sending pennies in the mail.
