Apple’s upstream supply chain has reportedly begun shipping new 13-inch MacBook Pros with Retina display and updated all-in-one iMacs, sources claim. According to reports, the new 13.3-inch Retina MacBook Pro should officially be launching in September or October.
Apple is also reportedly planning to launch three new models of the iMac, but due to yield problems with panels, the company has had to postpone mass production of the “high-end model.” It’s unclear at this point which model this refers to, and whether “high-end” refers to size or hardware. The other two models, though, had an increase in shipping volume from the supply chain in September.
This information aligns with what Fox news reported just last week, which expected new iMacs to possibly arrive this fall. New iMacs are not expected to feature Retina displays, but will likely include new Ivy Bridge processors, improved graphics chips, USB 3.0, and expanded SSD capacities. Production issues are said to be due to a new “full-lamination process” that will attach the display panel to the protective cover glass as part of the new design.
With successful iMac sales, Apple has become the fifth-largest desktop vendor in the world and the iMac is considered the most popular all-in-one desktop model in the world.
