Repairability is at the top of everyone’s hipster-mind these days. When a new device is released from Apple, people usually want to know just how robust the device is and usually how easy the device is to upgrade and repair. For the most part, repairability has taken a bit of a hit throughout Apple’s lineup as devices get smaller and more compact. When it comes to the 13-inch Retina MacBook, we’re a little bit surprised. Apple’s made it possible to replace the battery, unlike the battery in the 15-inch Retina MacBook that was glued into place.
iFixit, like usual, took apart the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro the first chance they could, and while most of the stuff is un-expandable and extremely difficult to repair on your own, the battery can be replaced if you’re feeling resourceful enough to operate on your laptop. The RAM is still soldered directly to the logic board, and the chassis is screwed together with pentalobe screws, so you’ll need a special screwdriver to open up the case.
