A new iPhone is on its way, but with great improvements also comes some inconvenient changes. While the new device is rumored to have a bigger screen, it is potentially going to have a smaller dock connector. This means it’s not going to work with your current speaker dock. (Insert joke here about bigger being better, you pervs.)
The numbers are all over the place with some reporters claiming the new dock connector for the iPhone 5 will have 19-pins, while other tech news sites say it’s going to be a 9-pin port. Seriously though, who is this “source”? Gimme a name people! My head is spinning. At the end of the day, all that you really need to know is that this means you’ll have to pad your electronic budgets with a little extra cash to buy the corresponding adapter AND you can only get this adapter from Apple initially. Cha-ching!
According to iLounge, Apple will be the exclusive initial vendor of the new Dock Connector Adapter. You can get one for $10 or scoop up a three-pack for $29. Or, you could wait until a knock off comes out, if one comes out…
Remember what Apple did with MagSafe connectors for MacBook laptops? Well, some companies are worried that the tech giant will corner the adapters and cables market as well. Those licensing agreements and lawsuit threats can be pretty off-putting to copycats.
