Almost two months after the iPhone 5 release, shipment times have finally improved for Apple’s newest iPhone. Since the device sold out on day one, customers have had a difficult time getting their hands on the latest and greatest iPhone. Apple quickly changed the shipping dates from immediately to a 3-4 week shipping time frame for its iPhone 5. As of today, Apple has managed to slim down the waiting times from 3-4 weeks to 2-3 weeks.
Why are shipping times for the iPhone 5 so high, anyway? Right now it’s a mixture of two things: high demand and supply shortages at Foxconn. Foxconn said that the iPhone 5 is the most difficult phone they’ve ever build (unsurprisingly), although they have recently also stated that production conditions have improved. If this latest bit of news is an indicator, we should start to see the shipping delays drop as we head into the holiday season. That said, if you’re planning on buying one of these devices for someone over the holidays, you better get ordering. Supply could increase, but with the holidays at the doorstep, supply could also drastically shrink as demand increases.
