India-based carrier Airtel will begin selling Apple’s iPhone 4 on May 27, according to a press release. The company will be offering the handset to both pre-paid and post-paid customers starting on Friday.
Airtell will charge at Rs 34,500 ($763) for the 16GB model and Rs 40,900 ($905) for the 32GB model.
While this seems steep, it’s important to note that Airtel is implementing a reverse-subsidized model. Customers have to pay for the iPhone outright at the beginning of their contract, but receive monthly credits over the subsequent 24 months to make up the cost of the device.
