As with every new OS upgrade, there are always legions of people patiently anticipating the release of its jailbroken version. If you fall into that category and have been patiently hovering over the iPhone Dev Team’s webpage, you might be in for a spot of disappointment.
Though reports indicate that the team is hard at work coming up with an untethered jailbreak for the iOS 6, it looks like we’re going to have to wait until it has been updated to iOS 6.0.1 before we can make it our own.
More importantly, however, here’s news about what you can and cannot do with that untethered jailbreak you’ve been waiting on. According to Auto-o-Mobile, the iPhone Dev Team recently mentioned a new ruling by the DMCA — jailbreaking your iPhone 5 on iOS 6 is great. Doing it with your iPad? Not so much. In fact, it’s downright illegal.
TechHive has even more details in this department. It looks like users will not be able “to legally ‘unlock’ phones or modify the software in a way that allows the operation of a SIM card from another carrier, that have been bought after Jan. 26, 2013.”
There are exemptions, however. Vision-impaired people are allowed to use screen readers and other such technologies to assist their electronically-distributed reading. Movies can be used by educational institutes for noncommercial uses, modified for usage with captions or descriptive audio.
