It’s out! Apple shipped iOS 4.1 at the exact same moment Google announced Google Instant. It was kind of hilarious watching tweets switch from Google Instant news to the news that Apple released an iOS update, and it looks like Steve won this round.
With the release of iOS 4.1 Apple’s addressed a number of lingering bug issues, but the only one we can list off in certainty is the lack of Game Center on the 3G phones. The 3G iPhone also runs a lot smoother than it did with iOS 4.0. We don’t have access to an iPhone 4 as of yet, and hopefully we can put that behind us soon, but there’s also plenty of confirmation that the other bugs have been killed off as well.
The proximity sensor issue has been fixed, and bluetooth connectivity is no longer an issue for the iPhone 4 when running iOS 4.1.
It also looks like Jobs came through on his promise for HDR photos, the ability to upload HD videos over Wi-Fi, and the inclusion of iTunes video rentals on the iPhone 4. All in all it’s a decent patch, and you should spend some time today updating your iPhones, you’ll be thankful that you did.
