Cricket is the first prepaid carrier to announce that it will carry the iPhone 5 and consumers will only have to wait one extra week. Apple’s iPhone 5 will be available at Cricket starting on Friday, September 28.
Cricket was the first carrier to offer prepaid iPhones earlier this year with the iPhone 4S, and now they will offer the iPhone 5 with pay-as-you-go pricing. Cricket Communications said in an announcement that the iPhone 5 will be available to customers in “select Cricket markets” starting on September 28. Pricing for the iPhone 5 is still unclear as no information on cost was given.
The iPhone 4S went for $500 for the 16GB model without a service contract and Cricket also offered the 8GB iPhone 4 for $400 contract-free.
Voice, messaging, and data pricing also haven’t been announced, but Cricket previously offered a $55 per month package that included unlimited talk time and 2.5GB of 3G data. The best part is that you can cancel this service at any time without having to worry about any financial penalty.
Right now Cricket has a total of 6.3 million subscribers and offers wireless voice and mobile data services over 4G LTE and 3G CDMA through its parent company, Leap. Leap is the owner of the seventh largest wireless telecommunications network in the U.S., and services all 50 states.
