On Wednesday Amazon released what it calls GameCircle for the Kindle Fire, a social network for games that is similar to Apple’s own Game Center. GameCircle includes achievements and leaderboards, as well as sync functionality so that player’s in-game progress can be saved to the cloud. Players can begin where they left off when restoring a deleted game or switching devices.
According to Paul Ryder, Vice President of Apps, Games, and Services at Amazon: “Our goal is to give developers great tools to quickly and easily reach new customers and keep them engaged. That’s why we’re creating easy-to-integrate APIs for features like leaderboards, achievements and sync. We also introduced In-App Purchasing API in April, allowing developers to offer a seamless 1-Click purchasing experience within their apps and games, and we’re just getting started.”
Some games have already been tested on this new gaming service, like Temple Run, Doodle Jump, and Triple Town.
What do you think of Amazon’s GameCircle? Does it compare to Apple’s Game Center?
