It looks like 7,000 kids at the Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 in Illinois are going to be pretty happy come next year. The district will be leasing somewhere between 6,000 and 7,000 fourth-generation iPads to be put into the hands of students and teachers during the next school year. The project will cost the district between $1.25 and $1.43 million for the three-year lease.
This isn’t the first time that school District 211 has used iPads in the classroom. Last fall, the district gave out 1,500 iPad 2s to students. Because of the expansion of the iPad program, District 211 will need to train an additional 60 teachers to use the iPad in the classroom.
Daniel Cates, the associate superintendent at District 211, has said the following about the district’s iPad plan:
We believe the one-to-one program is changing our teachers, it’s changing our instruction, and most importantly it’s changing the way in which students interact with their world,
Other schools in Illinois are also giving out Apple products to students as well. Carol Stream Elementary District 93 is hoping to roll out 4,000 iPads or MacBook Airs to students during the 2015 school year. In addition, Gurnee Elementary District 56 is currently working on rolling out 2,250 iPads to students by the end of the month.
