If you’re an iPad-wielding Office user, you’ll love the latest update to the Office web apps. Microsoft has just updated their line of Office web apps and Office 365 apps to feature iPad support. This update brings larger buttons, updated menus, text selection tweaks and other multitouch friendly changes to the Office web apps. These changes are enabled by default on most tablets.
Microsoft has confirmed that this experimental touch mode will work with both iPads and Windows 8 tablets. As of now, there is no word on whether or not Android tablets or Blackberry PlayBooks will be able to take advantage of these changes.
Since tablet support for Office web apps is still “experimental,” users may want to be slightly cautious when taking advantage of them. Unfortunately for us, Microsoft has yet to give an official release date for the final version of these touch utilizations. Let’s hope it comes sooner rather than later. Microsoft has said that their whole suite of Office web apps will be supported in this update; this includes OneNote, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
So, what do you think about Microsoft updating their Office web apps for touch? I’m a fan of this update as I often use Microsoft’s cloud services like SkyDrive on my iPad. This gives me yet another reason to love and use their services on a daily basis.
