CNN launches iPad app

This morning, news network CNN announced the immediate availability of its iPad app. Features include:

  • A world of content beyond top stories
  • Choose your view of the news
  • Commenting adds your voice to the story
  • The stories people are talking about
  • Watch live video as big stories unfold

KC Estenson, CNN.com’s senior vice president and general manager said in an article on CNN today:

High-quality, world-class journalism is what CNN does best, whether live breaking news, hard-hitting interviews or in-depth investigations, and our iPad app presents that content to the world in a wholly new way.

The app uses dark graphics, which is nice for reading in low-light environments. However, the interface is very cluttered, and uses lots of non-standard UI elements, meaning many users may see a learning curve within the app. The app is more than a little overwhelming, honestly.

Video playback is quick and smooth, and flicking through stories is very easy. Sharing to social media sites is easy, as is commenting. Sadly, the UI issues are a bit too much to handle for me.
