Who knows what that Apple is up to – supposedly they’re not busy enough with OS X Lion, iOS 5 and WWDC tomorrow. According to a report by DigiTimes, the company isn’t resting on its laurels with its leading tablet device, the iPad.
It’s apparently already searching out component manufacturers for the next generation and according to the story, Apple is running its certification process. This has prompted responses from Taiwan hardware companies who are keen to get their technology in Apple’s inevitable follow up.
Radiant Opto-Electronics, an LED backlight creator has been rumored to have received certification along with other backlight and light bar producers. The story goes on to say that Chimei Innolux, a touch-screen panel manufacturer has also pipped legacy providers Samsung and LG to the certification process.
There was also mention of Apple looking to use AMOLED technology, but other informants suggested it would stick with the same 9.7-inch screen as before. Who knows what we should believe.
Of course, all this information comes from ‘industry sources,’ which is often a method of disguising the more ugly term, ‘fabrication.’ Feel free to speculate on the above and the estimated release date of 2012.
