Zynga’s attempt to hide its massive layoffs behind the big Apple announcement today was foiled by a former employee who took to Twitter. The blow fell on their Bingo and TheVille teams out of Austin, Texas.
Justin Maxwell tweeted that his friends were amongst the employees that had been laid off during the Apple event. Maxwell says they were only given 2 hours to clean out their desks and vacate the premises. Rumour has it that other Zynga offices across the country could see some layoffs as well.
Both TheVille and Bingo games have been performing poorly this month. According to AppData, TheVille is down from 26.2 million monthly active users to 17.5 million and Zynga Bingo is down from 5.8 million to 5.4 million. In turn, the share price took a dive after the company reduced earning and revenue projects for the coming year. CEO Mark Pincus said there would be “targeted cost reductions.”
Do you think it was smart or sketchy of Zynga to do this in the shadow of the Apple event? Tweet me.
