Transcend’s JetDrive Lite Gives Your MacBook Extra Storage

Given how expensive solid state drives are compared to traditional spinning disks, no one can blame you if you opted to go with a lower-capacity drive on your SSD-equipped Apple laptop. The folks at Transcend have heard your cries for more storage space, though, and have released the JetDrive Lite, an SD card designed specifically for use with the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

These cards come in 64GB and 128GB versions, and since they’re designed to sit flush with your MacBook’s shell (as opposed to standard SD cards, which stick out of the slot and could break if you put your laptop in a bag), they are meant to provide your laptop with extra storage storage space. For instance, you may want to use the JetDrive to store your iTunes or iPhoto library, or a collection of archived files that you don’t plan on messing with any more.

On the technical side of things, Transcend rates the JetDrive with read and write speeds of up to 95MB/s and 60MB/s, respectively. This makes the JetDrive perfect for storing music, video, photos, and any other kinds of files that you won’t be editing constantly.

You can purchase the 64GB JetDrive for $50 and the 128GB for $99. MacBook Pro with Retina Display users can purchase a JetDrive Lite here.
