The United States Department of Defense will soon purchase 650,000 iOS devices from Apple. According to the report, the department just published a pending purchase for hundreds of thousands of Apple devices. The order will most likely go through once the United States sequester is over and the military budget expands, allowing for the purchase of these devices.
The military plans to buy a mix of devices, ranging from the iPad mini to the iPod touch. We should see 120,000 full-sized iPads, 100,00 iPad minis, 210,000 various iPhone models and 200,000 iPod touches deployed. As of now, we’re not sure what iPhone and iPod touch models are being purchased. However, we should see about half of the devices be deployed to the Pentagon while the other half will be sent abroad to soldiers and support commands.
As of now, the U.S. Department of Defense has roughly 470,000 BlackBerry devices deployed. All of these BlackBerry phones are running pre-BlackBerry 10 OS releases. The government apparently has no plans to test BlackBerry 10 devices for use in the Department of Defense due to budget cuts, so it will slowly but surely make iOS its mobile operating system of choice.
Now all we need to do is get the rest of the government on the Apple boat.
