Eddie Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, has told Entertainment Weekly that iTunes Radio will be used to promote pre-release albums. Apple has previously previewed albums on the iTunes Store, but this is the first we’ve heard of Apple previewing albums on iTunes Radio. In the past we’ve seen pre-release music from Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus stream on iTunes.
Eddie Cue said the following on the feature:
It’s a huge improvement to do it on iTunes Radio because you don’t go to a store a lot. Hopefully lots of people will be listening to iTunes Radio a lot; from a discovery perspective it’s significantly better.
iTunes Radio was released alongside iOS 7 and the iPhone 5S last month. Apple users can listen to iTunes Radio on iOS devices, iTunes on Mac and PC, and on the Apple TV. The service allows users to listen to tons of different radio stations free of charge to discover new music. If a user likes a song, he or she can purchase it via iTunes without leaving the Music app. Though the service may be free, iTunes Match users can listen ad-free.
