Apple sued for tracking iPhone and iPad 3G locations

Bloomberg is reporting that Apple has been accused in a suit over the database file that tracks iPhone and iPad 3G users’ locations.

The suit was filed on April 22 in Tampa, FL, by Vikram Ajjampur, an iPhone user in Florida, and William Devito, a New York iPad customer.

The suit accuses Apple of keeping this information. In a quote to Bloomberg, Aaron Mayer, an attorney for the plaintiff said, “We take issue specifically with the notion that Apple is now basically tracking people everywhere they go. If you are a federal marshal you have to have a warrant to do this kind of thing, and Apple is doing it without one.”

Apple hasn’t commented on the suit, or the existence of such data. So far, it appears that this data is just stored locally on the device and any computer that device is synced to.

Ajjampur and Devito are seeking additional iOS customers to join them in the suit and are asking Apple for a refund for their products.
