Full disk encryption is starting to garner some attention these days due to the fact that there has been numerous reports of customs agents getting the green light to search through your tech products looking for copyrighted materials (1984 anyone?). To add to the problem, a lot of people have been complaining about PGP really not working so well on OS X. A number of other applications out there exist and some of them can be mightly expensive, but there are also a whole host of open source alternatives: one of these is GPG.
