With Apple’s big event on October 20th just around the corner, the rumor mill is starting to heat up again, and analysts are looking for cheap ways to get their names in the press.
Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu says that supply chain checks over the last 6-9 months have shown Apple’s working on some hardware that won’t fit into any of their existing laptop models. He falls short of calling it a netbook, but he certainly alludes to it being smaller than normal, and possibly replacing the current MacBook Air.
A smaller laptop, with a thinner form factor is at the top of my wish list. Ever since retiring my 12-inch G4 iBook years ago, I’ve longed for a legitimate replacement. There have been some rumors circulating that the new MacBook Air could be about 11.6 inches, making it a legit 12-inch G4 replacement, finally.
Wu also notes that Apple’s been working on a touch-based Mac, which we’ve all assumed since patents have been filed and requested for the technology.
