I love to keep things in my life organized and cataloged. However, sometimes this can be a very long process. For as long as I can remember, I have kept a DVD list. I have over 800 DVDs at this point. So cataloging them has become more difficult, especially since I want to add movie summaries, artwork, genre and rating. Of course this is something I think of after the fact. Then almost a year ago I started using bento from FileMaker. This helped me get somewhat where I wanted to be. However, this still made a long project ahead.
Well just the other day a friend from BrightKite.com was talking about Delicious Library from delicious-monster.com . I had heard about this app for awhile, but was hesitant to buy it. Why should I? I have bento. Well I decided to download the trial version and use it, and of course I bought it 15 minutes later.
Delicious Library is a beautiful application that allows you to catalog and organize your media. Movies, Books, CD’s, Games. Just about any thing with a barcode that can be found on amazon.com can be put in this app. So how does it work. Well, quite wonderfully if I do say so myself. All you have to do is install the app, start up your isight camera and start scanning the barcodes! Thats right, it uses your iSight to scan the barcodes, so you don’t have to buy a barcode scanner! It is amazingly accurate. I had issues with some dvd’s so far, But it is easy to find your movies through the app if they wont scan. At $40 USD I think this app is well worth the price. It has made my essintial app list for macusers. I still have over 600 dvd’s to scan in, but now I am going to catalog my books too. Oh and did I mention that it will automatically catalog your itunes library? Well it does. And to top it off, you can publish your library online, Sync your library with your ipod so you can see your stuff in the notes folder. You can also catalog things you borrow from friends so that you can buy them later. You click on the item and select buy from amazon. You can even easily sell your stuff on amazon! So what are you waiting for, Try it out for free. you get 25 scans, and then buy it if you love it!
