While the DVD might only be around for a couple of more years, there’s still a few people who use their Macs as their home entertainment device. Watching movies on your laptop or desktop isn’t exactly going to be dying anytime soon. Most people have fairly large DVD collections these days.
Sometimes I find myself wondering how much time we have collectively lost while being forced to watch trailers, piracy warnings, and other crappy intros to films these days. Skipping them hasn’t been easy, until now.
If you’re tired of having to read the antipiracy prerolls for your films, there’s now a DVD player patch that lets you skip all the crap you didn’t want to watch in the first place.
The DVD Player patch script ignores the User Operation Prohibitions (UOPs) and licensing agreements that are on all DVDs. The bash script messes with the DVD Player application, so you’re going to want to make sure you read the README.txt included with the download to make sure your system is supported.
Also, like always, you’re going to want to make sure you have working backups before you start installing patches and hacks on your system. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Keep in mind that you can also take advantage of this type of functionality in VLC, without having to install the patch.
