People are whispering and chin-waggers are in full force. New rumors are surfacing today about the impending release of a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro. As usual, none of this is confirmed but by all means get your panties in a twist over this gossip.
The source of the most recent news is Richard Shim, an analyst from DisplaySearch. Although he is not clear on when the new MacBook will hit stores, he thinks it should be released sometime after the iPad mini. So he’s basically basing his rumor on another rumor that the iPad mini is going to be revealed on October 17.
Due to my commitment to journalistic integrity, I looked into this further and Shim actually seems to be a pretty reliable source. DisplaySearch is a company that focuses specifically on the analysis of the display supply chain. They have apparently been providing reliable information since 1996. Fine Shim, you win.
The 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro was released in June and starts at a hefty price tag of $2,199. Apple fans are hoping a more “budget friendly” version will be released before the end of Q4 and I’m assuming Apple is hoping this lower price tag will have them flying off the shelves. According to a blog post by Shim, production volume is expected to be roughly twice that of the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro.
Many anticipate that the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro will take design cues from its big brother but have a thinner body. The 13.3-inch screen is expected to have a Retina display with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution.
