While I usually find it hard to get excited about smartphones other than the iPhone, I tend to get really excited about Nokia phones. Whether it be running Windows Phone or Symbian, there’s something I really appreciate about Nokia’s design. In fact, I even owned a Lumia 900 at one point. So, why am I telling you this? Nokia has a press event scheduled for September 5, 2012, where they are set to reveal two new flagship devices: the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920.
Both of these phones are set to feature larger screens, Windows Phone 8 and improved cameras. However, one thing we didn’t see coming was wireless charging. According to Evleaks and Engadget, both the Lumia 820 and 920 will feature built-in wireless charging powered by Qi. The charger itself has an interesting puck-like design and seems to be a bit smaller than both of the smartphones. If you’d like to view the charging station for yourself, check out the image above. We don’t know much beyond this, so you’ll have to wait just under 24 hours to hear the full scoop from Nokia.
Even if you don’t plan on purchasing the Lumia 920 or 820, you should still be excited about these devices including wireless charging. Why? Because this will trigger the rest of the smartphone market to introduce wireless charging to their devices as well. I’m guessing that we will see wireless charging introduced with the iPhone “6”.
