Mountie from Ten One design is an absurd product. One other writers have been skeptical of. It attaches your iPad to the side of your laptop or iMac so you can use it as an additional monitor, or watch a video while you work.
Despite the skepticism, I was excited when I first saw this. I thought immediately of Duet display This would let you turn your iPad into a second USB powered monitor. Which is huge if you’re addicted to a two monitor set up and need to get some work done at a hotel. (You could do this at a coffee shop, but don’t be that guy. I may have already been that guy.)
Now that I have had the Mountie for a couple of weeks, I can say that it works exactly as described. You have to fiddle a bit with the various foam inserts needed to attach the device to your Mac and iOS device of choice, but after that set up you’re set. The Mountie is made from heavy duty plastic, it doesn’t seem like it will crack while it’s in your bag.
As it is essentially two side by side clamps that hold your device, it isn’t foolproof. Angle is everything here, if you’ve got your laptop in a stand, this likely isn’t going to work for you. However when your laptop is sitting flat, everything works fine. I’ll still say be careful as you don’t want to drop your iPad on the table no matter how flat. It is also worth noting that you will want to take your iPad and your Macbook out of their cases, which can be a hassle.
This can make for a fun little accessory, especially if you travel a lot as this can make your portable set up a lot more effective. Just be aware that you’ll need to fiddle with it a bit to make sure your device is secure. You can pick it up on Amazon for $24.95. It is available in blue and green.
