Today at the WWDC keynote, Phil Schiller announced a brand new MacBook Pro. It is pure sexy.
Phil Schiller:
The next gen MBP is 0.71-inches thin — you see the difference. It’s 25% thinner, a dramatic amount. It’s about as thin as a MacBook Air.
It weighs only 4.46 pounds, and it has a 15.4-inch screen. It is incredibly thin, but the best feature is the pixel density. Its resolution is 2880 x 1880. That is 5,184,000 pixels. It’s the best display on a notebook that has ever existed. Truly, it is magical to see a display with 220 pixels per inch.
You aren’t going to deal with tiny windows, though. Apple’s own apps are getting updated to take advantage of the HIDPI mode, but non high-res apps will get pixel doubled. You don’t want that.
It comes with an SD card slot, HDMI output, Thunderbolt, two USB 3.0 slots, 802.11N wireless, a backlit keyboard, Bluetooth 4.0, and MagSafe 2.0 — thinner than ever.
You’ll notice that Ethernet and Firewire aren’t included. You’ll need a Thunderbolt adaptor if you want to use Firewire 800 or Gigabit ethernet.
This sexy beast isn’t going to be cheap, though. If you want a taste of the future, you’re going to need to drop $2,199 just to start. For that, you get 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GT 650M video card with 1 GB of Ram, and a 2.3 GHz quad-core i7 processor. And it’s available today.
In other news, the old style MacBook Pro 13-inch and 15-inch models will remain available with an updated processor and video card as well as USB 3.0. It’ll be $1,799 for the 13-inch and $2,199 for the 15-inch.
