David Schmoock, the Senior VP of Lenovo’s North American market, has recently made a statement to Bloomberg regarding the price difference between Windows RT and full-on Windows 8 Pro based tablets. He has said that intel-based Windows 8 Pro tablets will feature a $600-700 price tag while the ARM-based Windows RT tablets will fall $300 below that price point, putting them in the $300-500 price range.
David Schmock made the following statement to Bloomberg in an interview:
RT will play in consumer and retail at very aggressive price points, it will do well but it’s going to be more of a consumer price point play to begin with
If you’re unaware, Microsoft plans to release two different versions of Windows 8: Windows 8 RT and Windows 8. Windows 8 RT will offer support for ARM-based computers and tablets. These devices will feature lower specs than their Windows 8 counterparts but will be aimed to compete with the Apple iPad as well as Android tablets, not Apple’s Mac lineup.
Mr. Schmoock also commented on Ultrabooks, saying that he’s not totally convinced that they will own 40 percent of the market by the end of the year, something Intel is trying to making happen. And while I thoroughly agree with him, this is an interesting statement from someone who runs a company that produces Ultrabooks.
