Do you read the privacy policies or permissions requests for the apps and services you use every day? If you’re like most people, your answer probably is “no.” As part of its #PrivacyProject initiative, encryption provider Silent Circle asked random people around San Francisco to read some app permissions on camera, and their responses will shock you …probably not come as a surprise.
Granted, Silent Circle’s video is part of a promotional campaign for a privacy-centric smartphone, but it’s still a good reminder that we all should be paying closer attention to what apps and services are doing with our data. Privacy policies and such are often very tedious to read, though, so app developers and service providers need to do a better job at presenting their policies in clear, straightforward language.
