Skype Working On A Fix For Messaging Bug

In a blog post this morning, Skype said that will be sending out a “hotfix” over the next few days for clients that were affected by a messaging bug that has appeared since the software’s last update.

The bug caused some users to send messages to unintended recipients, which has been occurring when the latest version of Skype crashes during a chat session. After the crash, the last IM that was entered may go to a different contact than intended once the user restarts Skype.

Upon further investigation, it has been determined that not all Skype products were affected by the error, as was originally reported. Users of Skype 5.9 for Windows, Skype 2.8 for Android, and Skype 4.0 for iOS have not been affected.

Affected Skype users include:

  • Skype 5.10 for Windows
  • Skype 5.8 for Mac
  • Skype 4.0 for Linux
  • Skype 1.2 for Windows Phone

A representative for Skype has said that a fix for Windows users is already out and the others will be out over the next few days. For more information from Skype about the messaging bug and what is being done to fix it, check out their blog.
