Skype releases 5.0 beta to the public. It’s sleek and sexy.

Just before heading into a podcast recording session today, we stumbled across the news that Skype has released a new public beta for version 5.0.

There’s a ton of new features available right off the top. But most important is the new design of the Mac application. It looks cleaner, and even feels significantly quicker. It’s pretty interesting that Skype plans on releasing a new application while FaceTime is starting to take off on Mac OS X.

Some of the new features included in the beta:

  • Group Video Calling
  • New call control bar
  • Phone Number support for contacts

Once we’re through with recording the podcast and taking the application for a spin, we’ll be sure to do an in-depth review. For now, you can download the beta directly from Skype’s website.
